OPEN EARTH

Earlywork Gallery
1 - 10 August 2025

Open Earth represents a relational approach to place. Jaelle Pedroli embraces sections of the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) and its shoreline as living entities. Waters breathe, cliffs hold memory, and foliage hums with quiet activity. Pedroli paints not just what she sees, but what she feels: the pulse of water moving past exposed tree roots, the soft give of sand beneath bare feet, and the whispering of branches in the wind. The earth is open — layered, shifting, alive. Each painting emerges from direct experience, guided by the artist’s deep attention to the subtle movements and rhythms that convey the landscape’s life force. Through vivid colour and expressive mark-making, Pedroli evokes the emotional textures of places she knows intimately. In Open Earth, we are invited to engage not as witnesses but as participants; the river is a being with which we converse.
